You’ve gotta come to the point where you admit to yourself that the constant looking at financial content, blogs, vidoes and listening to podcasts has become more of a hobby and way to decompress and dream than it is to actually move your own financial situation forward.
At some point, you know enough. You know enough to take action on what you do know, or you can automate it. Or perhaps you already have! You’ve automated your savings and investing you’ve gotten the raise that you’re going to get at work. Now it’s time to actually Start. It’s time to actually put up your first blog post, it’s time to call an investor friendly realtor, and figure out what your first step might be if you were going to start with real estate investing.
You don’t have to give up looking at financial content. However, it is really important to admit to yourself that what you are doing. You are recreating, you are stalling, you are perhaps stuck in indecision. You’re no longer moving yourself forward. You are not changing your money mindset anymore because you are not adding action to what you are learning.
Heck, just split it in half take half the time you used to sit and watch George Kamel YouTube videos, and watch a video on how to write your first blog post. Shadow a business person that you want to learn from. Call your city’s Small Business Administration and set up a free meeting with a person from a nonprofit group who can dream and plan with you about buying your own boring business. Figure out what amount of savings you would need to have in place before you could do that and set up a plan.
Admit to yourself that you are afraid, and that is ok and give yourself some compassion for that. We are all afraid, or nervous. Most of us come to the point where really useful and necessary information seeking and acting on that information has turned into analysis paralysis for the next step. That is ok, it’s just time to implement a new plan.
Where is the crossover point for you? Where does watching YouTube or TikTok videos and reading blogs and books turns from useful information gathering into stalling or avoiding? It’s probably different for everyone. Just like everyone has a different set of teeth, your point of when you need to start adding an action will be different. However, my own personal opinion I think the sooner the better and it doesn’t need to be ”massive action.” Just do one teeny teeny teeny small thing.
Read the book “Eat That Frog” and figure out your oil barrels. This means figure out what is the one next thing you need to do to help you reach your goal that is years down the road, and take that one step. What’s one tiny thing you can do to start out today? For example, you could write out a name for a blog. Try it. Frog blog. Froggy bloggy. Frog on blog. Froggin bloggin. Bloggie about froggie. See? You can do it. It can’t get worse than that.
